Check out the Jan 7 entry ("Don't You Know You're Toxic.")  The video link is SeaKap, me, and a small army of our Dresden Dolls performance art brigade at the Vic Theater with the band on January 5.  And we have been blogged about!

Autistic hiker back with family in W.Va.

    ...

"Jacob Allen wandered away from his parents Sunday afternoon on the Boar's Nest Trail in Randolph County. Hundreds of volunteers and trained professionals had been combing the woods, calling for him to come to them for candy bars, ice cream and other food. After each shout, they listened closely for rustling brush."

    ...

I don't understand why Yahoo! News felt it necessary to inform me of the italicized portion of the article.

Is vying for attention with the promise of a candy bar unconventional?  Because I do it a lot.

Has anyone else ever thought about how groundbreakingly shocking it would be if they euthanized the Pope?

    Vegetable Papacy

Man, I feel REALLY bad about my comment regarding the euthanizing of Pope JP II. I feel like a cold bitch now that he died...although it is slightly suspicious that he died on the same day as Terri Schiavo. Never seen them together...that's all I'm saying.

And, finally, TIME magazine recognizes my clairvoyance!

I am so amazed at my own foresight that I think I might puke.  Though, I may have puked anyway.

    Grrrrrr...

I think I'm discontent because of some fluke on tv-links.co.uk that allowed me to watch the first two episodes of "Weeds" (season 3) three weeks before the Showtime premiere.

I can't talk about it with anyone, nor can I ask anyone if I hallucinated the whole scene (since the episodes were removed from the website the day after I watched them.)

    I am very unhappy.

Blame is such an easy thing.
Man, I hate working at the library.  Not because I was reprimanded for reading a book while working.  No.  Because no matter how many of a patron's problems are rooted in their sophomoric inability to understand the complex Dewey decimal system, they always have a way of making me feel like their academic inadequacy is MY fault.

Blame is such an easy thing.

The Shadow and the Shadow of Batman.
    Oh, angry, angry Alec Baldwin.

Though I didn't have the opportunity to put that illustrious gold star on his lapel (a la SeaKap), we did share an "I'm smiling despite the fact that I really don't want to be here" glance at the gala as I was standing awkwardly greeting people and he was resentfully taking ANOTHER picture for the press. I'm sure he was thinking of the million ways he is going to abuse his 12-year-old daughter today (see Perez Hilton's blog, find the 4/19 entry about how Alec is the devil and you'll understand what I mean.)

Additionally, I'm in love with Pam Grier. And I hate standing in heels for 8 hours.

More than anything else, I am really regretful today. I turned my headshot and resume into a casting agency who was seeking a brunette between 5'8" - 5'10" for a major motion picture filming this summer. I got a call with an offer for work, but I'd have to start working THIS coming weekend (meaning I'd have to skip 2 days of class and 3 rehearsals.) I turned it down sadly and forgot it.

Then, I found out that the Batman sequel, Dark Knight, is filming in Chicago this weekend, and that if I had taken the job, I may have had the opportunity to be Maggie Gyllenhaal's stand in. But I turned it down. GAH!

7 Things I Do For Fun

Crispin Hellion Glover:  So how on earth did you hear about my movie?

Mallory Nees (in a British accent, because that's what happens when I get nervous):  A friend of mine, who knows I'm a fan, told me you were coming to Chicago to present it.

CHG:  That was sweet of them.  You know, most of my information is also up on my website, so you can keep up with...

It's a long post. I highlighted the important parts.
My work study job is uber-boring.  Layers and layers of caky boring.

I thought that I might find a life completely surrounded by literature to be inspiring, or, at the very least encouraging to my inner work ethic, but that simply is not the case.  Obviously, since I'm sitting here, ready to McGyver it up and fashion a pistol out of paper clips with which to shoot myself in the face.  Although, I suppose, that is, in a way, constructive.  But, ultimately destructive.

I miss Barnes & Noble.  The people there were much nicer than the other work study meanies that I have to tolerate for twelve hours each weekend.  This job definitely reminds me why I only have a handful of non-theatre majors at DePaul: because everyone else is a giant douche.

In other news, I went to another great, free concert yesterday.  I won tickets to see Skybox (I'm sure I vaunted their excellence in a previous post, but...whatever) opening for a band that I'd never heard/heard of called Tally Hall.  I was reticent.  I thought "chances are, Tally Hall will be disappointing in comparison to the awesome that Skybox will inevitably bring."  Not so.  Skybox was, indeed, at their habitual level of greatness, but Tally Hall melted my face off.  I literally do not have a face.

They built such amazing harmonies, did a couple of songs completely acoustic/acapella.  They were incredible.  We met with and spoke to the guys after the show, and they were really sweet.  I suppose it's possible that they were only being so enthusiastically pleasant because Chance (apparently) looks exactly like one of their friends from back home, Michigan.  Regardless, their kindness and gratitude was refreshing and appreciated.

And once we gather our thoughts, Chance and I will officially start jamming under the name "The Good Bad Band."  We think it's pretty clever, since Bone (his surname) means "good" in Latin, and Mal means "bad" in Latin.  It's nice to have some new projects to think about!

Speaking of projects (this post is becoming one), Mackenzie and I went to Romanian Festival this afternoon.  It was...sort of...there.  In a Big K-Mart parking lot.  We didn't pay the $10 admission fee, since, once the admission was paid, it seemed like the only thing to do inside the gates was buy expensive Romanian food and then eat it, and then feel awkward for a while.  So, in an act of blatant (but free) awkwardness, Mackenzie and I sat outside the gates and smoked cigarettes in silence and attempted to pick up on the Romanian accents around us (for the Acting lab we're performing in...we're not weird culture vultures.)  Uncomfortable silences, smoking, and a Bucharestian accent.  I think I've got this Romanian business down.

OH: AND EVERYONE WHO IS IN THE CHICAGO-LAND AREA ON OCTOBER 20 SHOULD BUY TICKETS TO SEE THE DRESDEN DOLLS AT THE VIC THEATRE: I'M OPENING FOR THEM AGAIN.

    Fin.

I thought five days of beans, produce and unsalted peanuts was hell, but this???
Right now I'm trying to distract my brainwaves from venturing to the cerebral area that's telling me how HUNGRY I am.

I've almost completed the detoxification regimen I've undertaken to counteract the beatings I continually give my body (in the form of alcohol, cigarettes, sleep deprivation and over-working) in order to partially, at the very least, revive myself for a year of hard work.  It's an eight-day detox, and I'm on the seventh day...the second day of the juice fast...and I'm already dreaming of the delicious foods I'll be eating on Thursday morning.

    FOODS!

I am festival-ed out...and there is still Lollapalooza to be done.
So yesterday marked Pitchfork: Part Deux.  Side note: I got back just in time, actually, to catch The Blue Oyster Cult, who is currently finished up their set in my apartment's "backyard" (Lincoln Avenue), playing "Don't Fear the Reaper," which was accompanied by a plethora of asshole college kids referencing Will Ferrell's cowbell skit of yore.

    That was a long sidenote.

    Sorry.

I was called upon by my friends at Innerview Magazine to help out for a 2 hour shift at the festival, which I did on Saturday.  They ran out of magazines by the end of the day.  So,Jay told me that I didn't have to come the following day, but as I've already told you that I just returned from the second day of the festival, I suppose you already understand that I was allowed back into the festival.  Because Jay gave me a press pass.

I'm not sure if all of you are aware of the benefits of the "press pass," but they are numerous.  To begin, you get your own tent (though the press tent isn't as nice as the V.I.P. tent...I'll aim for that next summer), free water, free beer, and...this is the best part...front row standing space for every band's set.  I saw Spoon, Os Mutantes, Yo La Tengo, Devendra Banhart, Jens Lekman, Tapes 'N' Tapes, The National...all at risk of being spit on by overarticulate singers.

The best shows of the festival (in my opinion) were:
Liars.  Let me explain: one of the two drummers wore a sequined tube top covered and a coat made of what appeared to be bubble wrap.the lead singer (who was like the love child of Anthony Kiedis and Mick Jagger) stripped out of his tight pants and button up shirt revealing a blue 50s waitress ensemble halfway through their set.  Then, as I was in prime position to view it, he crept behind the Pitchfork banner that abutted one side of the stage, and did a pole dance with some of the stage supports.  Private dancer.
Tarantula A.D.  Hard core AND a cellist?  I love this too much for mere words.
Art Brut.  It's like a mix between The Killers and The Streets...and Oscar Wilde.

    ...and it was awesome.

...but I got a wicked sunburn
